In de reguliere geneeskunde wordt het al bijna als normaal gezien dat vrouwen klachten ondervinden voor, tijdens of na de menstruatie. Voor TCM is het niet normaal dat deze klachten er zijn. Acupunctuur, medisch shiatsu en Chinese kruidenformules zijn zeer goed bruikbaar bij de volgende problemen rond menstruatie:
een te korte cyclus
een te lange cyclus
een onregelmatige cyclus
wegblijven van de menstruatie
na de menstruatie moe of futloos
hevig bloedverlies of te langdurige menstruatie
niet op gang komen van de menstruatie en/of veel pijn
Voor de menstruatie zijn er vaak klachten door stagnatie van Qi, dit zijn oa. buikpijn, flankpijn, gespannen en pijnlijke borsten, pijnlijke tepels, brok in de keel, vastzittende nek en schouders, stemmingswisselingen, depressie, prikkelbaarheid, huilbuien.
Tijdens de menstruatie zijn de pijnen heftiger en is er donker bloed met stolsels. Dit duidt op stagnatie van bloed. Futloosheid en vermoeidheid na de menstruatie duidt op leegte van het bloed.
